Exhaustion and Men in Tights

There's something rather sad about sitting here on the couch for three days...especially while there is a thin Caucasian man in tights singing an aria on the TV.

Over the weekend I went to visit my sister for her first child's baptism. Dimitri's baptism was beautiful and I had a wonderful time with my sister and her family. I also got to hang out with some of my best friends, Rachel and Audrey. I think I have known both of them since i was eleven. They all live out in West Virginia, it was a long drive but well worth it.
During the weekend though I noticed i was getting increasingly sick, with shorter and shorter nights of sleep.
Once I was back to the dorm I was going to finish my theory homework which Maren helped me with and then go straight to bed. However my suit mate decided to play very loud vulgar music late into the night, finally it was 1am and I had been pounding on her door for the last hour, she finely decided to turn her music off, however, I had a very short night of sleep.
Monday morning came way to quickly, I pretended I had 8 hours of sleep and drudged my way to Theory. I had class just fine, but suddenly I had a very strange feeling come over me. So I got up to get a drink from the bubbler in the hall. My body started feeling so strange, I fell down against the hallway wall and couldn't get back up. I had been holding tears back from my fatigue for weeks. Finely I couldn't stop them any longer, I burst into uncontrollable tears while my body was shaking. My good friend Ann came out and helped me, Maren got my stuff from class and they helped me out to the lobby to lay down. About an hour later my mom arrived to take me home.

Mom brought me home where I have been laying on the couch resting and watching TV or sleeping in my bedroom. It's getting very old, but my body isn't strong enough yet to take on the busyness of school. I have missed three days already, I can't afford to miss anymore. So tomorrow I will go back to school. The strangest thing has been happening the past two days though, a ache in my hips and legs that is so bad at times I can't stand on them, I'm not sure what on earth is going on.

So, now I am sitting here, Wednesday night, with Robin Hood: Men in Tights playing on the TV reclined on the couch, with aching legs and two papers to write.

Can we say, Procrastination, anyone?

The past two weeks have been strangely stressful. Even though I didn't have my theory classes on Wednesday and Friday.

I really should be writing my final draft for the Critical Analyses paper on "Monsoon Wedding" for my freshman comp class, but my brain is dead, I'm depressed and my legs are killing me. You may think the legs have nothing to do with my ability to write, but ooooh trust me, they do.
Also, earlier today I should have caught up on my reading for my Cultural Traditions class and gotten my reading for tomorrows Freshman Comp class done. But what did I do instead? Well, I woke up at 7. Had class at 8 then at 11 then at 12:30 then at 2. After Vocal point I continued to talk with one of my good vocalist friends about our vocal groups. Then I proceeded to look for my coffee press that I was to borrow from my friend, I walked to the wrong side of campus to see if I could catch her at the end of Orchestra, only to realize that Orchestra met in the building next to my dorm. Once i returned home and realized Orchestra wasn't out for another half an hour I proceeded to the dinning hall with my darling friend Matt. We ate dinner, well, proho's version of it. (not very good). After dinner I went to make coffee in my room with Maren and Kristin(a violinist). We drank our cute coffee's for 10 minutes when I realized my mom was now here to pick me up to go grocery shopping. So we went to Whole Foods and Target, only for me to get back just as my mandatory Hall Rep meeting ended. I continued to work on my theory homework and unpack my groceries at the same time.
Maren then came to bring me back my wonderful Einstein coffee cup, where we then talked for a little while. Now I am sitting here procrastinating further.... I think I am going to go to bed now.

My apologies for giving you a play by play of my day, but I'm in need of a good rant so I thought I would let you all in on my daily fun.

Any comments?

Teepe's any one?

Well, I'm not much of a writter, but I am going to give this a try.

This fall I started my first year in college, University of Missouri St. Louis (hurrah!). Music has been the choice I made for studying. UMSL really has a fabulous programm for music students. Classical to Jazz, its good. The choral and vocal faculty are unbelievable. However, UMSL does NOT have a folk programm to the depth that I would like. Istead of studying reels and jigs, I'm studying Aria's and Opera's. So, there is my delemma.
Now, one awesome thing about UMSL is they bring in Artist from all over, especially Irish and Scottish musicians. The other week Brian McNeil was here giving us a 40 minute show/lecture. Last week we had Micheal Black, I got to talk with both of them about my delemma. They suggested the university of Newcastle in England. Or if I really wanted to be gutsy, University College Limerick or Cork. The problem is, these are all very competative school to get into. I decided to go with Newcastle. I have had correspondence with the director of their BM irish folk/trad programm and he is awaiting my audtion recordings. Which are in the making. I'm so nervous!!! I don't have a large repitoire of folk music yet, but I am trying my best for this audition. Pray and wish me luck. I would really really love to study over in England. Its way up north, just next to the Scottish boarder, just a fairy ride away from Ireland.

So far, dorm life has been pretty good to me. RHA is amazing!
I have made to many friends to all type on here, but so far probably my closest friends at the dorm are MAREN!!! Matt W. andd umm a few more people, but for now I am going to focus on them. Maren is probably the sweetest gal I have ever met. She comes from Oregon and is a very good Violist. She and I are in the same Theory class, Matt also. Maren was homeschooled like myself and has red hair, only her's is natural. We run back and forth to eachothers floors and hang out, rant to eachother, run into eachother's arms when being goofy, laugh and talk about all the serious matters of life. A true best girl friend. (not to exclude my other bes girls)

My room is a pretty good size, it's very pleasant Oak Hall has four private rooms to a suite, we all share a bathroom.
One of the joys of a private room is being able to have my Icon's up and say my prayers by myself. Of course I'm not saying you should only say your prayers by yourself but it could be awkward to have a room mate sitting there while your saying your Lenten prayers, prostrations, etc.

OOooo, one of the perks of being a music student at UMSL, FREE SYMPHONY TICKETS!! Many times we will have friends like Stephen(love you!), or Ranita who either get tickets for free or for around $10 dollars. The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra is really amazing. I have been blessed to attend around 5 times now. With a couple more planned. I love it, the music is fanaminal!

Well, right now I am sitting at my mom's apartment in House Springs, MO, where I normally spend my weekends. I will do my laundry, get more food and go to church here. Then go back on Sunday evening. It's a nice set up. :)

Well, I guess thats it for now.

Any questions?
